The Newborn Support No One Really Talks About

I have to admit, I am guilty of not doing one of the most important things when it comes to effective communication: listening.

Sometimes, in an attempt to help someone, we forget to ask, “What do you actually need?”

When I think about support, I used to think that if I could silence the noise and simplify all of the information, that would be helpful. And I still believe it is.

But providing a lot of information isn't always the most effective way to support someone. Sometimes, listening to mothers and hearing their concerns is where support needs to begin.

When I enter a room to see a patient, I usually start by asking, “Do you have any concerns?”

I sit down and listen before I review medications, histories, or complete my exam.

Asking about concerns and really listening gives me the foundation I need to make a thorough assessment and work with the family when it comes to solutions.

That is the type of support I want Nurture Works to provide to new families.

Support that doesn't only speak to you, but listens as well.

So I want to invite you to ask a question or suggest a topic you need clarity about. Your questions can help shape the education and resources I create for new families.

I see you. I hear you.
